There is a stowaway, co-existing silently in this house.

I wouldn't have been bothered about him if he did not make such a nuisance out of himself. When I first moved in, he kept relieving himself in my room!! Every time I open my door, he would be there, ready to pounce on me. When I'm preparing my meals, he would continually beg for food even though his tray is filled.

But when you get to know him long enough, he can be such a dear. Sometimes, he just lays there by my side - asleep - while I'm busy rushing my assignments for the week.

However irritated I am with his careless behavior, I cannot bear to isolate myself totally from him. At times of frustration, I would chase him out of my room but I will leave the door slightly ajar, hoping that he would return and apologize.

Although a language barrier separates us, it did not prevent us from spending time together. His silence and presence is sufficient to sooth my wrecked nerves from a hectic day at work. Amid the ups and downs of my life in Melbourne, I am glad that he was there to accompany me. Someday, when it is time for me to leave, I believe that I'll miss his company, no matter how many times he abused my room.
