From fridge to dining table : 15 minutes

Ingredients:

5     slices Bacon rind
5     leaves Cabbage
    stalks Celery
    Carrot
    Potato
    Large onion
    tbsp Soy sauce
4     tbsp Water

Preparation:

  1. Heat up a skillet and space the bacon evenly on the surface when hot.
  2. Cut the carrot and potatoes into strips of ½ cm x ½ cm.
  3. Slice the onion and separate them into rings.
  4. For the celery, cut them about 1 cm thick, starting from the base.
  5. Wash and chop the cabbage into strips of ½ cm x 3 cm.
  6. After the bacon has crisped, strain and remove from the skillet.
  7. Pour in the vegetables and fry, tossing frequently, for about 3 minutes.
  8. Dilute the soy sauce with the water and pour it into the vegetable mixture.
  9. Cover and leave to simmer in low flame.
  10. Cut the bacon into strips of about ½ cm thick.
  11. When the vegetables have softened, transfer them to a serving plate.
  12. Sprinkle a generous serving of the bacon onto the vegetables and serve.

Comments:
  1. Using bacon gives more flavour to the dish, however, other meats could be used instead.
  2. Other non leafy types of vegetables could also be used. Some (like long beans) require a longer time to soften, so it would be advisible to soak them in boiling water for about 5 minutes before adding them to the rest of the vegetables.
